Stop chasing the impossible....

Member Blog post · Lifestyle

While people in glass houses, ie possibly me on occassion, but ... with good reason, health issues, should not cast aspersions or reiterate continuously (note at least one big word in there that I really don't understand but feel its fitting for the sentance so if it makes no sense, I am not held responsible) but really?

While I am not always active in chat I do poke my nose into the blogs, mostly because I'm nosy and sometimes just to see what is going on...well !

What can I say but I smell the age old whiff of BS .... (is this where I name & shame?).... however!

Being on occassion one of those people that read blogs and perhaps do not respond when I think I have something that would add or even detract from the conversation, are you serious?

You (general term for those I speak about) post lengthy and sometimes even sensible comments on a thread (incase y'all haven't caught up yet, I'm talking about the "Trading Post", lets make gor spectacular and top of the room ratings again threads, which in my opinion was started well by said person which I won't name because then somebody will take offence I said his name and they didn't get a mention....don't worry, I'm sure one of my generalisations will fit you....  then went to potty stench when y'all started chippng in yer tuppence worth of bs)  yet on each occassion I have made it into chat (yes even us old folks with health issues can) I have seen two, possibly three at most folks who are in that room, keeping it open, standing up for this so called "get Gor back" brigade. To clarify....

By brigade, which I mean in the loosest of terms as per the definition...A brigade is a major tactical military formation that is typically composed of three to six battalions plus supporting elements. It is roughly equivalent to an enlarged or reinforced regiment. Two or more brigades may constitute a division. Brigades formed into divisions are usually infantry or armored. In addition to combat units, they may include combat support units or sub-units, such as artillery and engineers, and logistic units or sub-units"

Unfortunately not only is the presense of folks who talk a real good story, a myth, as per the defination, I was over optimistic in even giving the band of blog commenters such a glorious title as brigade as they are yet to enlarge or constitue or even begin to come together as one unit.  So....

Rather than spend all that time sat there staring at the screen waiting for some person who does enter chat and participate ("be involved; take part.") why not trek your fingers into the chatroom that was created with purpose and show support for those who have taken time to actually participate (note the use of the word twice to emphasise) in roleplay that might start to encourage some decent storylines.

I have no doubts that many out there dislike me, as me or as my character, on both personas, I couldn't give a bosks right ball. I am more than happy to admit that there are people out there in Gorean roleply and beyond (reference to those who interject nothing but shit stirring comments into a community they are either not part of or who are hiding behind anon profiles due to not having the dangly bits to be confronted) who I dislike. I won't use hate because that word holds no purpose, its merely used to make the speaker feel splendid in that they actually more than dislike somebody, they hate them. Anyway back to my course of thought here...regardless of whether I think you are the best/worst/or non roleplayer (I'm laughing here because we all know thats actually me, the best one obviously! LOL) I come across you in roleplay (hardly likely as most of you I dislike are the very people I am comment about that dont, here we go again...participate), however, should the event ever ocur, I will roleplay around that person and if neccessary, with said person or persons.

See, some of us folks here are grown ups. Think about this logically, possibly outside the box for some of you (generalisation of persons again), consider your age, your real life everyday life, would you really act in real life the way you do online in chat? Grown men and women bickering like children, throwing their toys out of the bosk wagon because this said that about you or such a buddy did this and you didn't like it.... GROW THE FUCK UP! (capitalisation to indicate this irritates the hell out of me).

This is a roleplay forum, supposedly, mostly by associaton rather than actions or combined effort however, I am going to say something that might come as a shock to many of you.... now sit down, take a deep breath and try not to cry but.... its not real !  While certain relationships may form, perhaps even spilling over into real life, the actual event of Gorean roleplay, is fictacious (not real or true; imaginary or fabricated. see even the meaning in the dictionary says so too) so maybe if you stop acting like a small  child in kindergarden trying to keep all the sweeties to yourself, this idea might actually work.

Will it bring back the "Glorious days of Gor? no it won't. Contrary to some peoples belief, that will never happen. Many reasons for that, people dispersed and went to other realms and servers and just everyday life and death in general but what we can build is a "community"  A community is a small or large social unit that has something in common, such as norms, religion, values, or identity. Communities often share a sense of place that is situated in a given geographical area or in virtual space through communication platforms. Durable relations that extend beyond immediate genealogical ties also define a sense of community.

If we stop chasing the impossible and create what is possible, we begin to form not only the brigade, but also the community.

I am more than willing to attempt this goal that currently seems very out of reach...are you?

Ideas? It’s all well and good to have suggestions, but has it’s been shown lately (and before) when someone says “great. What ideas do you have?” It’s nothing but crickets and not the Jiminy kind.

Oh lordy, took me long enough to write this post...you want ideas too? I think I need to take this in stages, too much all at once I may look intelligent and we cant have that. My first idea would be for people to get of the blogs and into the rooms. Doesn't matter what room, who's home, what storyline, just getting them in there is a start I would think. If you look at the number of people posting on blogs relating to Gor posts, that would make a full room and potentially a good storyline.

If people see storylines they will get involved, if they get involved they return. Sounds simple I know but that's where I see it all beginning.

I agree mostly, but people don’t like certain people here. Why RP with someone you or I or anyone dislike? Life is to short to RP with people you or I or anyone don’t feel are worth the time of day. That’s what it comes down to when all is said and done.

Then roleplay around these people. IF I dislike somebody I don't rush over, shake their hand and buy them a bosk ball sandwich. I will continue my rp without much ado. Nobody says it has to be in the one room, while I get the idea of the Trading Post, no reason other Homes or even rooms set up for a specific roleplay scenario wouldn't work too.

Back in the day bana, Griogair and Simone and I RP’d on my ship. Griogair had found an uncharted island and only he knew where it was. Since bana and I are the only 2 left here now who rp’d with them on it now we are it. That was one of the most fun RP things I have ever done that didn’t include dice and paper. Treasure, abandoned ships, lots of fun. I’ve toyed with the idea of going back there, but haven’t put it together and since it was an uncharted place I wouldn’t want all of Gor knowing

About it or it’s location. Anyway, I know what your saying and I know the trading post isn’t the only place to play. It’ll never be like it was; logging on and seeing Ushindi with 10 people or Asperiche with 12 or Tarnsmen Camp with 16 (I loved going to TC). Just have to get used to places with 4 and thinking that it’s a good turnout. It’s to bad we all can’t get along, but those days are mostly over and we have to make do with what we have I suppose.

so whats the point of saying you will go to said room, then when all is said and done, you dont go? hypocritical and waste of time if you ask me. seriously you guys actually got me out of MY camp to get this thing going and no one shows up afterwards? I took the big step and came, now it seems like paying for a BSR and spending hours upon hours waiting for people is a waste....

IskanderOct 15, 2018 3:48 AM

albeit, I didnt buy they room, but i brought in the majority of people, Me, Eyota, zia, and nantuk in for when they could be there

I am assuming that comment isn't aimed at me as I distinctly remember spending time in the Trading Post talking to yourself when I have been around. I too have my own Home I have been running alongside being in the Trading Post in hopes people will see Gor is still alive and tip toeing rather than kicking at the moment but I'm certainly up for some kicking....

No it wasn’t aimed at you
