Gorean slavery

     ********   This is not my own writing, below, but taken from two helpfull website.I felt it was important to post because latley I have seen some horrific things in regards to slaves. I have seen a lac of basic knowledge and felt that this could help a few people.  Here are some generals in regards to slavery in gor.

Procedures of Slavery

Laws are an essential part of the Gorean experience. A Gorean, whether Free or slave, believes that law is what makes men Men and animals lesser. Law is what keeps civilization from shearing itself into pieces and preventing atrocities from occurring. When it comes to slaves, there are many which pertain to their existence, limitations, societal intent, and rights.

It must be stated that without question, slaves do not have rights. They are given rights based on their heritage, performance, and the desires of their Owner(s). They do not legally own anything, not even their own life, name, or anything given to them. If they are slave, they do not own it. Any rights they are given can be easily taken away and never returned. A slave's rights are entirely up to them and how they decide they wish to live. The very idea of 'natural' rights or 'human' rights does not exist on Gor. Rights are given or truth depending on if you are Free or slave. This has never been questioned by any Gorean and I highly doubt it ever will be. It is simply the way it is.

There are so many laws concerning slaves, both male and female, that to actually list them all would be exhaustive and require many more pages than can just be stated here, so a simplified list of the most important will be stated here while any specific laws or rules governing specific types of slaves will be stated within that specific entry.

• Everyone is subject to slavery, even Men. Women are simply more likely to become enslaved then Men.
• Legally, slaves are considered property, regardless of their type, position, or value to their Owner(s). This means they are treated, by law, as domesticated animals. This makes them subject to anything that their Owner(s) wish to do. An Owner has strict and absolute control over their slaves, including their very right to existence.
• Slavery is used to satisfy financial debts.
• Free Women can become a slave at any time, but only if they become collared, submit, or show gestures of submission.
• Almost all females from Earth, often sent by Journey of Acquisition, are considered automatically slaves because of the Gorean mentality that Earth females are inferior to native Gorean females. This means that there is no process in the legal system for discussing the possibility or context of slavery.
• Any crimes committed as a Free Person are dispelled upon the official recognition of a Free becoming a slave. A slave cannot be held accountable for any crimes committed by them as a Free.
• All children born from a slave are considered slaves of the mother's Owner(s) at the time of birth, not the time of conception.
• Slave papers and any form of legal documents concerning slaves or slave ownership cannot be falsified. It is considered a felony on Gor and punishable by severe consequences, including up to death.
• Slaves are not permitted to carry weapons or receive combat training without approval by a Magistrate and the Owner(s). Few cities alter this law, though there are exceptions to this law, particularly in Outlaw society and Panther girl society.
• Slaves can only handle money indirectly.
• Slaves cannot do anything or attempt anything that proclaims or identifies themselves as a Free, whether through clothing, speech, or written documents. Any attempts at this are considered capital offenses and punishable by death, torture, and dismemberment.
• Rape of a slave is considered a capital offense for both slaves and Free. In Gor, the identifier of rape is any non-consensual or consensual act that is committed without the approval of the slaves' Owner(s).
• Slaves cannot carry or touch legal documents by their flesh. All legal documents carried or touched by slaves must be done so wrapped in materials such as leather or cloth.
• Slaves cannot build or create anything used as infrastructure, architecture, or engineering as this is the purview of the Free. The only exception to this rule was the city of Port Kar, which was built by slaves.

The condition of slavery does not require the collar, or the brand, or an anklet, bracelet or ring, or any such overt sign of bondage. Such things, as symbolic as they are, as profoundly meaningful as they are, and as useful as they are for marking properties, identifying masters, and such, are not necessary to slavery. They are, in effect, though their affixing can legally effect imbondment, ultimately, in themselves, tokens of bondage, and are not to be confused with the reality itself. The common denominator of these customs, of course, is that the slave must understand that force, either explicitly or implicitly, is involved, and that she will enter the stronghold of the master, and as a slave, whether she wills to do so or not.

Surely slave tunics leave little to the imagination. Among the girls, of course, there is little disagreement in practice, though some in theory. That a girl is wearing even a rag is usually a sign that she has pleased her master, and quite significantly, too. Often the garment of a slave girl does not come easily to her. In private, of course, even rags are often dispensed with. The slave is the property of the master, and, in the privacy of his quarters, she is done with, totally, as he pleases.

She is too marvelous to free; and if she is not marvelous, she can be slain. Too, what man who has known the glory and joy of a girl at his feet is likely to wish to exchange that for the inconvenience and bother of a free woman? Even boys are taught, under the tutelage of their fathers, how to bind female slaves, hand and foot. They are also trained in gagging and blindfolding, two useful devices for controlling and training slaves.

Some Gorean masters do not permit their girls to look into their eyes unless bidden to do so, but this is rare. More often the discipline or punishment is not to permit the girl to look into the eyes of the master, which increases her apprehension and, of course, severely limits her capacity to read his moods. That is somewhat analogous to denying her food, or a particular food, taking something away from her. In standard first position the Gorean slave girl kneels with her head up, unless forbidden to do so. One of the great pleasures of the master/slave relationship is the unparalleled intimacy which obtains between the participants, an intimacy which is naturally much enhanced by the ability to see and react to one another's expressions, body language, and such, these things so indicative of thoughts and feelings. Men desire complete slaves, it seems, and this means total, vital, feeling, thinking females at their feet; that is apparently what one wants there; few if any men, it seems, desire a mere body, a puppet, a doll, an empty slave; who could be satisfied with such? Where would be the triumph, the pleasure, the value? What then, in such circumstances, could be the master's joy in owning us? Ellen had been told that she had very beautiful eyes. They were gray. Her hair was a very dark brown. The hair and eyes of Mirus, as those of most men, were brown. Ellen looked into the eyes of Mirus. His expression seemed severe. She averted her gaze. But then more can surely be gained from both her face and body. And from the slave's point of view, how can one best please a master, if one cannot truly see him?

There are of course a thousand thousand variations in the mastery. Sometimes more is accomplished by what is not done than by what is done. Women are different and slaves are different. Much, for example, may be done with postponement, neglect, and anticipation. Sometimes a slave becomes so distraught, even beside herself, with anticipating the inevitable that she can stand it no longer, and throws herself to her belly before her master, sobbing, and begs her usage. "I am your slave! Please have me, Master! Ravish your slave! She is yours. Have mercy, Master! Ravish me, ravish your slave!" Too, when a woman is not frequently and well used, such being the common practice of masters, she begins to fear that she may no longer be desired, that he is considering another slave, that she may be taken to the market. All the fears and harrows which may afflict a free woman in an ambiguous relationship are multiplied in the case of the slave, who is without recourse, other than her collar and beauty. The free woman, for example, cannot be simply stripped and sold. Sometimes a slave will even beg the whip that she be reassured that her master still cares for her, if only enough to beat her. Slave beatings, incidentally, are quite rare, and almost always of a punitive nature. The slave is pleased to be subject to the whip which situation is quite meaningful and excites her, but she seldom cares to feel it. So she is likely to behave in such a way that there will be little cause, or temptation, to use it on her. Why should she be beaten? She is doing her best to be a good slave, to be wholly pleasing to her master. To be sure, sometimes the slave may be beaten to remind her that she is a slave. Few things so impress her bondage on her as the lash. Under the lash she is in no doubt that she is a slave. Interestingly, the slave, in her tears, often welcomes, and is grateful for, this confirmation of her helplessness, vulnerability, and servitude. It reassures her of that of which she wishes to be reassured, that she is a slave, the property of her master.
