the spirits are spamming the blogs
Member Blog post · General
My chakra needs to be cleared.
While I respect that everyone may blog, and many enjoy reading the blogs. I ask if possible could you limit the blogs you post regarding spirituality and chakra to one a day per person. It is overwhelming, and feels pushy that your blogs consume the boards and all other blogs.
It sounds as if you are trying to push your religious views.
Here is a little article that to me...related well to it.
All of us hold a world-view, a picture in our minds about how the world works and what is real or unreal. When you come across somebody who has a different picture in their mind you have various options about how you share your differences in world-view.
Today I want to suggest that pushing your particular view of religious ideas onto other people is probably not a cool idea.
Whether you are Christian, Muslim, Jew, Hindu, Buddhist, Pagan, or Atheist the same general principle applies. We no longer live in an era where it is considered acceptable to conquer somebody’s country and impose our belief systems. Whatever the scale, from countries down to the talking-space at the bar, pushing your religion is a bad idea.
1. The Truth is Out There? If so, it’s not obvious.
What is truth?
If you claim to have it, how can you show me that you are right? How can I know that you are not some deluded nutter who thinks they have the answers but who is actually not living in the same world as me?
Simply telling me your “truth” and that I am wrong is not going to be terribly persuasive. It’s really the argumentative style of the school playground to simply state something as truth and then expect others to bow to it.
Whenever I get talking to other Christians who, having not met me, don’t realise that I am also a Christian there almost inevitably ends up being a moment when they try to assert some basic “truth” of the Gospel. Perhaps it’s the idea that God has spoken definitively about abortion in the Bible, or that tithing (giving 10% of your income to the Church) is divinely mandated, or how terrible it is that folk don’t get their children “Christened” any more.
For me, given the nature of each of those questions, I find myself wondering, “Really?”
Has God (in the Christian sense) really spoken definitively on those issues? Because I don’t think He has… and the moment I think that, I am also tempted to think that you haven’t really thought about it nearly enough to believe otherwise. Yes, I am perhaps wrong to give in to that temptation… but what other option have you given me?
2. Closed Statements Demonstrate Closed Mindedness.
A closed statement is a viewpoint that brooks no discussion. (Like that one…)
Allow me to rephrase:
In my experience it is generally the case that when someone makes a definitive statement they leave me no space for discussion or input. It is then quite likely that my most likely response will be to either argue with them or, more often, opt for silence and the judgement that this person is a closed-minded bigot.
How do you respond to this kind of statement?
“Faith-heads are all people who need a crutch to help them get through life. They need to wise up, get real, and start living in the real world.”
“New Age boffs are all a bunch of dreamers who don’t have the courage to make a solid decision about what they believe.”
“Atheists are intellectually arrogant yet, on the whole, can’t understand that you can’t prove a negative. Where do they get off?”
Look – I know I am being provocative and extreme here. Nobody really says stuff like that, right?
Except that they do. I’ve heard it myself… and I have probably uttered similar things at one time or another too. If you’re a human being then you’ve probably done it as well.
This kind of thing is pushy, disrespectful, and out to get you labelled as… well… something not nice.
There is another way. You could encourage a discussion instead.
“What I’ve always struggled with in relation to faith is the fact that, throughout my own life, I’ve never felt the need to lean on any god or stuff like that. But then, is that what it’s really all about?”
“Given that the Qur’an tells me how to live my life, I don’t really understand the value in seeking out different religious practices from other cultures. How has this helped you in your own faith?”
“I’ve always found it hard to understand how being an Atheist is any different from making any other faith choice. How did you come to the conclusion that there definitely is no god?”
Yeah. I know. It’s not something that happens much, is it.
3. Spamming Is Annoying
A friend of mine mentioned that, the other day, they had been “spammed” on their blog by some Christian-style organisation. The inference was that my friend had been told, in no uncertain terms, why they were wrong. I’m guessing that my friend chose not to publish the comment.
It doesn’t matter who you are or what the context is, really – you need to ask yourself what right you have to push your own views onto somebody else. An unsolicited opinion is the inter-personal equivalent of spamming. It’s unwelcome, it doesn’t enrich the experience of the recipient, and it gets you labelled.
Please don’t post spammy comments on blogs. Try to avoid “spamming” the conversations other people are having. And finally, don’t sit there in your armchair and try to tell me how stupid I am for seeking after the Divine.
Have you considered how the other person would feel? Are you going to give them a chance to speak too? Are you prepared to listen?
As far as I am concerned, it seems reasonable to assume that there is far more to learn from other people’s different world-views than there is in trying to smash them apart.
What do you really gain by trying to conquer their minds?

I was thinking the same thing......... thankyou for posting
Excellent B'!
What it boils down to is we should all respect other peoples views and opinions and life choices, and not try to push yours onto them
Thank you for saying what a lot of us are thinking.
I mean no disrespect BUT, buzzen is a community for many different people not strictly Gor. Everyone who is a member of buzzen has a right to post with they wish in a public blog. Perhaps it would be best if you want strictly Gor to start a proboard with just Gorean themes. I know I'll get some nasty comments on this but everyone has a right to post what they wish as long as it is within buzzen guidelines, gor and non-gor alike.
So, I read this and thought it through, and here is my take on it.... We have, as Goreans, spammed these blogs with negativity, drama and bullshit for years, and not ONCE has anyone asked us, even as politely as this is, to stop "spamming" the blogs with it. So, why should we even consider asking, even if politely, anyone to limit how much they blog about what? Hate to say it, but if I was Silver Moon Sparkles, I would double my daily blogging. She/He is not violating the CoC, so blog on!
I understand ccri, but the original point is "Hey, I don't feel like reading your spiritual bull malarkey, could you just limit it to one post per day?". I don't think any of us, especially is Goreans, have a right to ask anyone to do that based on how we blog. Like, right now for example...
Well said ccri
If goreans could actually use the feature 'groups' it would clearly solve any annoyances.
I think categories are a great idea, That way everyone has a choice. It doesn't matter what Lifestyle a person chooses, writing post after post about that topic (also called "spamming" ) is unnecessary and reeks of mindless brainwashing.
And I, as a "Gorean" (role player), can speak for Myself and My actions, I certainly do not need to be dumped into a quagmire of past grievences spouted by others who don't want to play in the sandpit.
So in future, please do NOT include ALL Goreans as having ........quote "spammed these blogs with negativity, drama and bullshit for years........" unquote. Because I and many others certainly have not done so.
Perhaps you have not "spammed the boards" for years. BUT, you are whining none the less. Should they make a category for that? Whining over non-sense perhaps?
Mmm a board about whining now thag would be popular and always full lol
way I see it, for what its worth, is this is a free community that we come to, we are free to roam rooms, chat groups, forums etc and post where we feel its well placed, or not so well placed in some instances but I have no issues with whoever posting whatever, I am free to choose what I read *feigns a loud gasped breath at a slave being free to do anything then grins n scarpers*
If you read my original post.... I am not telling them to not post. I respect that everyone has a right to post. But you open it and see numerous posts over and over its a bit much. All I asked was if they could limit it to once a day per person. It's not whining but a request.
I know what your saying B there continuous posts are cluttering the blogs up with the same stuff all the time ..i agree it can be a bit tedious at times
Myself, I understood very well the intent of the post, but the question posed is "Why?". I don't think it's fair to ask someone to stop blogging in a public, sanctioned by the host (Buzzen) blog that is here for everyone to use as they wish within the guidelines of and CoC. Now, playing Devils Advocate here, I do see your point, -almost-. But like anything else, if you don't want to read it, then pass it by and forget about it.
It is any worse than reading piddly poor roleplay?
The currently overwhelming amount of spam is an annoyance. It is consuming. It's like a parade of salesmen that came knocking on your door every day, and most of the same ones kept coming back time after time? Or if your phone rang all day and night with sales calls? Would you put up with salespeople jumping in front of you waving sales flyers in your face every time you walked down the street? Isn’t unsolicited e-mail just another version of this type of rude intrusion?
again i am not saying they should not post. I am just pointing out that if a person posts 5 threads a day about the same thing..their religious view. It gets a bit much. I post 'pis poor' rp sure. but I DO not posts thread after thread per day.
also..NEVER did I say I wanted to read only gor. Again my point. is just the quantity of posts. Like I am doing now. spamming my own thread. HAH!
You are comparing apples to salesmen though. The difference is, you can IGNORE the blogs a helluva lot easier than you can your phone, email, and front door. Once again, devils advocate, I am willing to bet that even religious people get tired of seeing others preach and peddle it. But I am willing to bet there is a large population out there that enjoys these posts. A larger one that don't care. And then... This thread saying "Pump the brakes, Susan!!!!"
On a side note, religion intrigues me, a lot. Sometimes it's the belief system, sometimes it's the story as to how a religion was started, and sometimes it's the people that are (or claim) to be religious. I'll be the first to say it: What is posted is not a bad read most the time. Is it a lot? Yes. But am I able to pass over it and not think twice about it? I am not forced to read it, nor reply. I do when I want and don't when I don't want. So, post on, SMS! Be a herald of your beliefs!
all this blog needs now is a comment from Warren & Thiery, and we are home sweet home! Great, now I have 'Ricky's song in me head; "phylosophy, is the picture on a cereal box, Religion, is a smile on a dog. Im not aware of too many things, I know what I know if ya know what I mean.....keep me in the shallow water, before I get too deep" ODIN!
Chaldea, being that this is actually a decent conversation with great counter-points being made, I don't think either of them care to comment. Why even try to evoke them?
because They have the right to? and they are funny.
That's one word for it.
aeyp! *big smiles* Hey, I was offered a DM yesterday, yaaay ME!
oi again you diverse from what I am saying! ALL I AM ASKING FOR is that if they can combine their stuff onto one thread, it makes it a lot easier to come on and read stuff. Again, for a third time...its the quantity of blogs. Spam.
gives me an idea ...the sunday jehovas witnesses that constantly come knocking..im gonna ask if they can come in a group so i dont waste my sundays telling them all were to go...then id get to enjoy my bikes rides for longer
Why, Bianci? Because you and a handful of others don't want to have to jump a page or two to get to a blog that's relevant? You are making a good point, -however-, my point is simple... They have no obligation to compress their blogs into anything smaller than they are now, quite frankly.
they have no obligation thats true ..but B was making an observation regarding the amounts and thats her and others right to do.
I never said it wasn't. :)
its not a page or two bart. its spam. over and over. repetitive. As its a board that we all use..I think its fair that I am asking it to be limited. If I posted 5 a day about my 'gorean' views certainly people would say something about it. Maybe the suggestion someone had earlier of separated parts would be better.
It's not really spam. It is not the same message over and over and over and over. It is several messages. If it -was- spam, then Buzzen not only would delete it, but they would shut it down. I think the suggestion of categories is a good one, but this is not the platform to get action taken on. Buzzen support, however, is. This is a complaint thread in the blogs, about someone blogging, in your eyes, too much. Don't get me wrong here, I am not chiding you, only giving you advice, as it were.
I do not require your advice. I just posted my personal opinion about it. And it was not started a complaint blog. It was started as an appeal to the writers of the said blogs. Spam is also not categorized the same message, but repetitive messages consuming the boards. Just like when you get ten emails with different wording about magic pills for penis enlargement.
Well, I used to need those penis enlargement pills, but they worked, so now I am looking for shrinking pills :)
While you may not require my advice, perhaps if you looked at it, and took it for what it's worth, you -might- actually get Buzzen to do as you request. Just sayin'
I am not asking buzzen to change i am asking them. but Im glad those pills worked for ya.
the pills are supposed to be taken orally Bart not crushed and rubbed on ya head lol
Ugh. Why ask them to change? How are they actually affecting your life, though? Does it burn your cornea to see so many blog posts? You might want to get that checked out :) And, remember the blog by Judas last week that called out Helisto? Yeah, you were called out too, right? At the end of the day, how is THIS, different from that post? Go to SMS and say "Hey, I don't know you, but maybe you could________".
Nothing wrong with asking. And it is an annoyance. Why concern yourself with my cornea. It is spam, it is repetitive and it is not the only one that feels this one.
what does the blog that judas posted have anything to do with this? yea He called me out for something..and I apologized for My part. Again, this has nothing to do with this. If you wanted to go there there is a lot of shit that you have posted that are similar to His. We ALL have done them. That is not the point here.
Nice digression though.
While not as blatantly ignorant as the post spoken of, it is still you putting someone on blast because they like to blog about a subject that they are passionate about
no. that is not what i am doing. In fact you are wrong. One thing I am not , is ignorant. I Am not attacking the contact (than it is push with the religious views)but the frequency and spamming nature. Nor am I attacking their passion. I keep saying the same thing over again to you but seems to not stick in.
I am not going to continue this rant in public, for it has gone on far too much. Bart, if you wish to have a discussion regarding this I have no problem doing so. You can always come to Port Kar for said discussion.
If you don't like them don't read them. Nobody is forcing anything on anyone, as reading any blog is a matter of choice. You are responsible for the content you expose yourself to. Also, those who find my comments inadequate are free to transcend them at their convenience, if they are able.
Well said Warren.
I wasn't actually calling you ignorant. What I was saying was, is that you are calling someone out for doing something that you don't like. I never called it an attack. And, if I showed up in Port Kar, it probably would not have the end result that I am sure you would like it to have :)
It was just an invitation for discussion. You do not have to worry about what ending I would like, but thank you for the consideration. I understand though, its different then Lydius. no such thing as three post entrance to be considered valid just one.
Lol.
Seriously? No offense intended Biancella, but I think with the endless Gorean blogs which often consist of little more than whining & pissing matches, perhaps others feel the same about Gorean blogs? I dont see it as forcing their religion on others any more than I see the Gorean blogs as interesting to anyone other than those who interact in r/p Gor. Maybe it's a difference in perspective, but I tend to just pass by anything I dont want to read - at times that includes Gorean blogs.
I doubt if most of the Gorean blogs are interesting to decent Goreans honestly.
I wouldn't disagree with you on that topic Warrior : )
*waves to the Warriors that I just KNEW would arrive to complete, and possibly end this 'blog gone wild'.*
no offense taken again again i am not pushing the quality but the quantity. and again, i am not saying for them not to post it is just allll the time, over and over. i am also NOT saying that the blogs should only be gorean. or that gorean blogs should be first. the difference is..the gorean blogs ... are not 5 a day.
Which is good. Some Goreans are barely literate. Mildly retarded.
lololol
@Thiery.....most in fact. (according to the books.....and on here too it seems)
I hate to say it, but I actually enjoyed this one. Nobody got too twisted up, good points were made by a few people and... What's that? Nobody threatened the FW to shut her pie hole or challenged a man to death? Good form, I say, good fucking form!
True, for the most part, 'good form!' I especially enjoyed the imagery of someone smashing, crushing pills on One's forhead. (at least that was the 'head' that came to Me mind)
Heh, I forgot about that. At least, unlike Robak, I knew that BEFORE I used them as suppositories :)
I kinda liked the aura blog the person did. I think it fit my aura very well. Just saying. :)
Chaldea, I am of Torvaldsland. As such, I am not of the Warrior caste, or any other.
oh dear oh my, I must have forgotten that! HJ You must be, then. good evening.
Great post. :) I suspect if more were as open minded, this world might be different.
