Buzzen Groups

We are currently working on Buzzen Groups, which will allow users to set up a group much like the old MSN Group Pages. We are interested in knowing what you would like to see included in groups. Give us your ideas and we will try to incorporate them.

I would like to see a button replace "/fixscroll" and other commands of that kind. You have a LOT of people who are physically infirm and a button is much easier to work with than typing out a DOSlike command.

First and foremost I'd like to see you incorporate any and all of the MSN technology and features for building Groups/Communities .. making sure that anyone can build them as MSN did. In other words, a person would not need to know coding such as HTML to actually construct a Group/Community, create categories separating General from Adult Groups/Communities and give the owners responsibility as well the ability to easily control access to the Groups. Provide plenty of space to store images.
May 22, 2015 3:06 PM
Providing technological ease needs to be a goal ... one site had done that when MSN first eliminated their Groups and the site grew exponentially as MSN folks flocked to it. They have slowly moved away from the easiness of making and maintaining groups there and folks are searching for alternate sites. Another site, Blogger, had recently considered closing down groups that contained adult images but quickly reversed that after the protests and intentions of people to leave and go elsewhere.

Censorship is best practiced by the individuals who use a site .. if it is clearly marked as an adult site containing adult images and text or information allow people to choose whether or not they enter. Obviously the primary rule should be that anyone who wants to join/enter a Group must already be a registered Buzzen member. Anyone approved to be a member of an individual group would also need to be approved by the owner(s) to do things like respond to commentary or add images or pages

I know I have said a lot already so I just want to say again, use all of the old MSN technology as possible, there is absolutely no sense in re-inventing the wheel ... Do this and I am sure that just the word of mouth will cause a ground swell of people to join and return to Buzzen as there are so many who moved to alternate sites when MSN shut down. Whether it is individuals who just want "Siggie" groups or "Discussion" groups or even those who enjoy the eroticism of "Adult" groups .....

Buzzen can have an impact on hundreds and probably thousands of people who had to abandon their MSN groups when it was decided to close down that feature. No alternate sites have provided the ease that MSN did. Having used some of these sites I find it to be exciting that Buzzen is finally considering adding this feature. The problem is if you make it more technical than it needs to be, and techy folks tend to do that too often. OK I have given you more than what you wanted ... Thank you!!!

@ JPStrikes.. you no longer have to type /fixscroll.. if you simply click in the area where you type it auto fixes it.

@ ﺳkãtÿãﭼ thank you for all of your suggestions.

I think katya said it all. It all comes down to an updated Buzzen that is an MSN redux :)
May 22, 2015 7:39 PM
My biggest issue is i'm not sure i remember all the options MSN Groups had. I wasn't a big msn group person. So the more information i can get the better.

how about a separate blog spot for roleplayers .

MSN Groups were just message board with a chat room, weren't they?
May 23, 2015 12:53 PM
MSN Groups allowed people to create up to 300 pages, decorate them with an assortment of backgrounds and also to store and place images. They did contain message boards, similar to bloggers andthey each had a chat room contained within. The major feature that attracted so many folks to use MSN was the fact that a group could be made without any techy knowledge. It was pretty much point, click, drag and a site looked as good as any other internet sites around.
May 23, 2015 12:56 PM
There are many people who would join Buzzen if this feature was available to them. I would leave out the private chat room and have them open one on Buzzen itself. From all i have heard the license or copyright or whatever on the MSN technology has expired so people have used in and attempted to duplicate it. as cherish said, don't try to reinvent it, just do it like it was and make a nice support addition to the improved Buzzen
May 23, 2015 8:11 PM
i was in msn chat and groups till they closed and used them a lot. I think it would be a good thing here and I will use it for sure. Nativewind

the more options the better
May 25, 2015 5:40 PM
I would move my group over to buzzen groups in a heartbeat, especially if its set up similarly to how msn had theirs set up. I agree with Katya though, the private chat room within the group, really not necessary. A lot of the forums that are out there are complicated and confusing. All I would suggest is to make the groups as easy to use as possible. I think that would bring people in from all over. Wishing the programmers the best of luck. Looking forward to this very much!

Simple is better so make the options easy. I agree with no private chat room within the group. That is a waste of time and effort. I would also suggest a more "pronounced" promotion of the groups and a short blurp of what they are about. Maybe rotate groups on a daily or weekly basis so every one gets a fair amount of time on the front page.
Thanks for working so hard on this! It's appreciated very much!
May 26, 2015 3:35 PM
I have a chat room that is g rated and family safe that you all are welcome to join. I don't allow porn or things like that in it. Also I am in a 12 step; recovery program for 35 years now. Will add link to chat room here.

i agree wholeheartedly with cherish, keep it simple, make all options clear as crystal clean mud ... too often techy people build things assuming we folks understand what they are saying and doing ... i need simple, clear instructions and an easy operation ... i know very very hardly any HTML code ... so please please ... make it like MSN where one could make the finest pages without ever having to use an coding .. and i also support cherish's idea of promoting groups, whether General or Adult
May 26, 2015 4:13 PM
thank you all for your input. it is appreciated. i will do my best to incorporate all the great ideas.
May 26, 2015 6:14 PM
errOr .. i have located the examples i spoke of, screen shots of the old MSN site ... how can i get them to you?
May 26, 2015 11:24 PM

I am excited that Buzzen is working on Groups. I enjoy the chat area, and roleplaying is a fun pasttime. It'd be nice to see different groups to choose from. Thanks Y'all.

I'm excited about this! Will there be an area for comments from members? I looked at the pics and maybe I missed it. How far out are we from getting this new feature. I'm not going to bother with my website if this is going to happen soon. :) Thanks so much for all of your hard work!

i am so anxious for this and if you need a former MSN user who is still "less than techy" to volunteer to test a beta version for feed back i would love to help.

Not to downplay this, but when MSN Groups were closed, people moved on to other (might I say better) things... Facebook (Buzzen has a page there) etc. I was quite disappointed when MSN Groups closed, and their suggested replacement was total garbage, but I managed to keep in touch with (most) group members with other means. Yahoo Groups, while not having all the easy to use page builders seems the most common replacement now, if Facebook doesn't serve.
I'd love to see the results though!

err0r take your time a work in progress is better than none , I for one is very content to wait while you do all that can be done . Thank you once more for all you are doing .

i wasn't working with buzzen until the last few years.. I've recreated buzzen site from scratch not to mention the tons of re-coding I had to do as what they had before was so bad. Then i've redone the webchat. I'm sorry if i'm not working fast enough for you. I'm doing what i can as a "volunteer". Sorry you feel as though we have "let you down".

I don't think that Caney was bustin yer chops, err0r, just excited, as we all are. I would rather you take whatever time is necessary for the project to be done right, than slap something together that will make the naggers nag more. No worries, if the groups are made as well as buzzen is, then you's a genius, and I for one, appreciate your efforts!

Buzzen did not exist, per se, before msn chat closed. NSM chat opened at that time and became Buzzen later. Very little of what MSN had is reflected here, the flash chat, for instance, isn't msn's OCX control, and I suspect very little, IF ANY code (or policies) are from msn.
"Re-creating" msn groups, therefore, which have been closed since 2009, and were turned over to Multiply, and then failed, would make no sense. If enough chatters want it, Buzzen could open something similar.

Most people use Facebook, even Buzzen has a page there, it seems to be the new 'norm' of social networking, rather than groups. If people want groups, Yahoo has them (at least for now) or people can open their own websites easily enough.

They were great for someone who knew absolutely nothing about web page design, I grant you that. You could have all the eye candy you wanted. Page design has changed vastly in the last 7 years, and definitely in the last 20 or so! You don't even have the option to use a current version of FrontPage, once Microsoft's premier web design program. You CAN use something like KompoZer, Seamonkey's Composer, or one you discover that uses templates.
The problem is, now, all that cross site scripting!

Even Microsoft itself gave up msn groups, they were handed over to Multiply, which did a horrible job of them. Write to Microsoft if you want their groups back, or their editor for groups back. I'm pretty sure they'll laugh after 7 years. Me, I see no need for fancy web pages that someone who can barely use a computer can attempt to use.

Multiply tried to be the one-stop shop for a user's Web 2.0 experience. It didn't work. They couldn't monetize it, and it took a lot of server time to keep it up, and people wouldn't pay for it. You want to share videos, photos, etc? or you want a pretty web page for blogs? There are services out there (Facebook, blogger, etc) that DO that, where you can share content with millions, not five, people.

u r clueless as to what msn groups offered and every level. And I doubt that can be fixed.

No, I had an msn group, and I helped some others set theirs up. The problem is, no one even remembers them, people have moved on, Facebook has pretty much taken over the sharing aspect, for those seeking a limited group, Yahoo works, and web design has drastically changed. The templates that the groups used, the tools they used, etc. are all pretty much lost causes now. They might have nostalgia value, that's about it.
I ALSO wonder why someone who can't type in correct English is interested.

Error, I'm not denigrating your work, by the way. By all means have at it, but I'm pretty sure everything has changed and just a few users will be happy with the result! I recall msn groups allowed for some pretty awful web design by rank amateurs, who barely could turn their computer on, let alone design a page! (I was one.) Things like: the font color blending in with the background picture, being unreadable, pages that you had to scroll way too much both ways, the way pages were listed...

Just checking in...is this project still a go?
Oct 25, 2015 6:07 PM
I remember MSN groups...was a manager on several of them. The groups had the capacity of having several pages of information, which could be linked to other pages, creating a "grouping" within a particular subject. The MSN groups also had forums, which most know now as a blog. The forums appeared on one designated page..which individual subjects could be placed and allowed for people to post and interact. MSN groups also used HTML to create various backgrounds. I, too, am interested.

i have a suggestion - i live in country nsw, and the only local online buy/sell/swap is on facebook and its not very good. when you go to see whats available, you have to individually go through each item. the old msn group pages could be modified to be a buy/sell/swap page for individual remote areas worldwide. it would be good if the page could just list everything that is for sale in alphabetical order, and you could just click on it and a page could open giving the details.
how about it?

You don't have a local Angies List or Craigslist? Seems to me, Buzzen wouldn't have very many sellers or buyers in any particular area. FacelessBook, either, but at least that's a bit larger.
Nov 22, 2015 9:44 AM
i agree with dafixitman.. there would be few buyers/sellers in your area to worry with it. Also we don't have the time or staff to deal with issues that would arise from that sort of thing.. You are better off using other services for this idea. Do appreciate the idea though.

Wil; You might also find things on Freecycle.org, or at least go there and see how that's set up. I'm sure there isn't one in your area but it's a great idea, and you might be able to find a similar site, or set one up yourself. Of course that assumes local users in your area can find it (you might be able to put the word out on FB.)
You might also look at http://www.gumtree.com.au Just type NSW in the third search box and then you can choose an area.
That seems pretty impressive.
